Laws Prevent Drinking and Driving

California’s goal is to prevent drinking and driving. In doing so, the state has several laws that discourage individuals from using motorized vehicles after drinking.

Here are some of those laws:

Administrative License Revocation

There are laws that allow the police or license authorities to revoke a driver’s license. This can be done quickly and automatically whenever an individual refuses or fails a BAC (blood alcohol content) test

Zero Tolerance Law

This law makes it illegal for individuals who are under the age of 21 to drive when convicted of a positive BAC level.

0.08 BAC Law

It is a highly publicized law that lowered the driver’s BAC limit to 0.08. This lower limit reduces the level of being considered a DUI.

Minimum Legal Drinking Age

In California, the minimum legal drinking age (MLDA) is 21 years old. Alcohol may not be bought or sold by individuals under this age limit.
